SAM Chapter 8 is located in the Puget Sound area of Washington State with members all over the northwest, Canada, and the USA. Several years ago the local FAC Chapter, Squadron 34, and the remenants of the Strat-O-Bats merged with us and now we have an even wider interest in Free Flight topics.
Our primary focus is Free Flight of all types. Old Timer models are prevelant but we have a lot of FAC and AMA type models, as well. We are strong supporters of the NFFS as well as the AMA and FAC. We fly on the Fort Lewis Military Complex and get access as often as we can. This is a great flying field of about 1 1/2 miles by 3/4 mile of what the local greenies call a prairie. We also fly in several other parks locally that are much smaller. Our events feature flying in very diverse categories and we try to accomodate a "fly what you brought" attitude to attract as much participation as possible.
We are an aging group, as many model clubs are, but we have new members coming in on a fairly regular basis. There is always room for more.
We also hope that this effort will be a huge gain for all involved.
